How old are they? 18 or over they claim it but under that you do.

Over 18 and a student can still be claimed as a dependent if the parent is providing more than 1/2 the support.  If the child has erroneously claimed himself as a dependent on his return, you need to file an amended return to change the status to "dependent of another".  You can then file your own return claiming the child as a dependent.  Both the amended return and your return will have to be filed on paper.  Amendeds can't be e-filed, and since the exemption was previously claimed for that SSN, your return would be rejected if you e-filed it.
