Discuss natureinterest's answer to: I have long and narrow living room it looks like a bowling alley how would decorate it?

  When I was living at one of the military bases, a nurse at the base had put a large mirror on the wall in front of the entrance door, it felt like it was 3 times wider.  The only other thing I can think of is to paint one of the long walls a lighter shade or one that goes with the 3 other walls, this should make the room look visually wider. If possible put your wider furnature on the end of the room to make the room look shorter.
