Should Damon/Affleck reveal their ghostwriter for GWH?

I've heard the rumor that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck didn't write "Good Will Hunting."  What I heard was that two-time Oscar winner William Goldman really wrote it.  But since Damon went to Harvard, and Affleck later co-wrote and directed the excellent "Gone, Baby, Gone," I have doubts.  Do you know if there's evidence that Goldman ghosted the script?

The Goldman stuff was  denied long ago. I am not referring to him and that line of  inquiry as the Ghost writer I have in mind. Goldman may have been consulted or not, but surely as you say, the confidence of a Harvard dropout would have compelled Damon to try to write it  himself. After all, he was emulating the great  tradition of the Actor-Writer, which no doubt he studied in college.

if there is another unknown person at the heart of the story: a founder who then gave a  detailed film and story treatment to Damon [and Affleck] to work up  into a full script, is the world entitled to hear about him? or her?

The undiscovered ghostwriter will be a third writer, the writer who actually attended MIT, who actually told and invented  the story  idea from his life and times and inventions from his wishes: part fiction. What if he was of an older generation, filled with the Age of Aquarius idealism,  and did not need to be a star but a secret puppeteer, or planner initiator  Then, he must have been the first writer , and the story would be largely his story. That will make more sense to me.

Would  you say that DAMON AND AFFLECK should reveal the truth if that is the case?  would it harm them? 

yes they should. They were unknowns who were desparate. they made a mistake. People know there ws something wrong that such a hot writing team did not come up with another story in  2 or 3    years.  What about the person who they might have cheated? Maybe he or she is homeless now? They should show some basic decency to the ghostwriter. Who are they fooling besides themselves? YEt they are hurting the rest of the world by lying for so very long./

If someone who really went to MIT was the originator of "Good Will Hunting," I agree that Damon and Affleck should reveal that ... unless the person wants it to be confidential.  Maybe this person values privacy, and prefers to be anonymous.  But someday the truth will come out ... I believe it always does in the end.

If there is a 3rd writer, I am sure their identity was not kept quiet maliciously but by choice.  But I do not see why they would not have mentioned it at the time - they were too new in business for it to have mattered then.  What does this have to do with Hayden Panettiere?

I do not think that "too new in the business" determines how people would act. Character determines that, deepest moral character!

A kind and generous person will do the right thing, voluntarily reveal the truth. A selfish, frightened, hungry for that new  won fame with the uniquely crafted reputation of boy geniuses would cause a less than honest character to choose the  "gold, not the humble piece of coal" in order to maintain that celeb-granduer  false image.

And Oh yes,at that time  such a lie exposed not voluntarily would definitely have ruined their pure sunshine images.  Had they revealed it then, with the Ghost's permission, it would have added higher dimensions to their fame.

Well, i think  hayden is an unusally honest actor, who advanced by pure acting ability. I think sh e has not fraudulent secrets as soem think Damn and Affleck had with regard to being the SOLE writers of the GoodWill story.

I love celebrity gossip - that is what my name means.  Hayden was seen giving a lap dance to Jesse McCartney while still dating Milo - not sure that is so honest!
