is it possible to negotiate credit card pay off.i have limeted income from social secuity and my savings are almost depleted due to high medicine cost.i want to settle before i have to declare bankruptcy.what are the steps for negotiatio.i owe approximately 20k to four different card companies.

Please see a bankruptcy attorney now, not when all of your money is depleted. Debt negotiation is possible depending on your circumstances, but you need to talk with an attorney now, not later.

Keep in mind that forgiven debt may be taxable, but debts discharged in bankrupty are not subject to taxes.

I think that you should get a free consultation from a credit counseling agency that specializes in credit card debt .  They can advise you if debt settlement or bankruptcy is the best option for your situation.  Be sure not always get a second opinion and take advantage of the free consultations offered as there are always lawyers and debt companies just looking to make a fast buck from you.
