Cracking and pushing on foundation due to roots

This winter I started to see cracking and pushing in our foundation could an oak tree 25ft. away cause this? The tree and house are 30 years old and the cracks only appeared this winter. The ground outside also seems to have sunk about 3 inches.

Probably since roots can really damage the foundation due to its swelling plus if the roots are guided on your foundation wall, the water will definitely go along your basement wall and causes the damage.

Yes, my whole driveway is cracked along with the foundation of my house. It was caused by a 90ft. Hickory tree in my front yard. I cut that tree down myself. I'm a tree surgeon, I cut trees for a living.

I think that it is a combination of factors but the tree is probably not one ot them. Oaks have deep roots and it is way too far away.

Depending on what part of the country you live in and if you were affected   by the drought this summer. Could be the earth beneath your foundation has shrunk and caused some movement with your wall. Things to look at are doors and windows not operating as well and maybe some cracking in plaster.
