How can I be sure the corn on the cob I buy at the grocery is fresh and hasn't been picked for extended periods of time? I would rather have it fresher as it is sweeter in taste for me but what would tell me it is freshly picked?

Check the kernels for firmness and plumpness. Old corn will feel dry. Also the husks should look and feel fresh.

Love one another.

Pop a kernel with your thumbnail if the kernel looks good. It should rupture  with a bit of pressure and a milky fluid will issue forth.
