AWS has a standard procedure for virtually any welding process you can name, including alloys, intermediate metals, and dissimilar metals.  They also have nonmetal welding techniques down pat.

They specify current, preheating techniques, and chemistry.  AWS has ways to join metals to nonmetals such as ABS and nitrile rubber. 

Just go back to your AWS Procedures Handbook and it will all be there, clearly spelled out.
