How do you cook scrapple? I tried last night and it ended up a mushy mess. Whenever my husband gets it out, it comes out in a nice fried slice.
Scrapple is usally cooked by frying. The best way to fry it is to use a cast iron frying pan. Either bacon grease or crisco can be used . The scrapple can be sliced in a several ways. - and thicknesses. Most people like scrapple crisp. Thus you must give it time to brown before turning it to the side. When both sides are crispy, it is done. Serve the scrapple with ketscup or syrup. Potato cakes or home fries are good served with the scrapple, among other things like pancakes . The thing to remember is that you do not use a high heat and be patient waiting for the scrapple to brown. Good luck.
And I thot Scrapple was a word game. So I Googled it.
Scrapple is typically made of hog offal , such as the head, heart, liver, and other scraps, which are boiled with any bones attached (often the entire head), to make a broth. Once cooked, bones and fat are discarded, the meat is reserved, and (dry) cornmeal is boiled in the broth to make a mush. The meat, finely minced, is returned, and seasonings, typically sage , thyme , savory , and others are added. The mush is cast into loaves and allowed to cool thoroughly until gelled. The proportions and seasoning are very much a matter of the region and the cook's taste.

Well, I WAS getting hungry. LOL!
CE1-
AMEN.
I am laughing with you. Or possibly puking. I am thinking that I would rather eat McDonald's. And that is my most unfavorite not so fast food place.
I cooked the scrapple today using butter on a hot griddle. It turned out perfectly. Last week, I cooked it in a pan on the stovetop and it was mush.
Thank you for letting us know how it went. Not enough people actually let us know if we helped. Hope you can stick around and help some other people on this site.
I dip mine in flour on both sides and then fry in oil until brown
I have added you as a contact. You seem to be very sensible and intelligent.
I am glad you are a Yeddan.

for me the best way to cook scrapple is to dip into a flour and a little bit of paprika mix, just lightly not too much, then I will use a frying pan w/ crisco. If you like you can also deep fry with crisco, this works very well but the time it takes to prep the deep fryer takes a little bit longer.
