Since DVD is encrypted, you would need a tool to pass its protection and copy dvd movie to your iPod. Here is a tool called iSkysoft DVD Ripper for you.

I personally use Cucusoft Ultimate DVD Converter. It converts DVDs to play on almost any portable device including iPod, iPhone, Zune, PSP, video capable MP3 players, video capable mobile phones, Pocket P.C.
Free download at:http://dvd-video-soft.com/dvdconverter/cucusoft-ultimate-dvd-converter.html

It even has a step by step guide.
Hope it helps.

Generally speaking, DVD purchased or rented from stores always have copyright protections. To put dvd to ipod, you need to use dvd ripper to bypass the copyright protection and convert dvd to ipod mp4 format. I recommend that you use Daniusoft Best DVD ripper to rip the DVD's, it can bypass all kind of dvd copyright protection schemes and save the DVD to computer in iPod video formats. Additionaly, it is already optimized for output setting for iPod...

Most of all, it will not break the video into pieces, it will join all DVD titles and chapters and make them as one standalone video file.

It easy enough to get it out, and this step-by-step guide will show to how to sync DVD/videos to ipod.

Tools you may need:
#1 SnowFox DVD & Video to iPod Converter
#2 iTunes for free
BTW, if the DVD is protected, see this guide: How to Convert Protected DVD to Video.
link: http://www.snowfoxsoft.com/tutorial/how-to-convert-protected-dvd-to-video.html

Please note, not all videos are compatible with iPod. First of all, You have to convert DVD/Video to iPod supported video format.

Ok, let's begin.

Step 1. Connect iPod with your computer and open iTunes.
Step 2. Click "File" on iTunes menu and select "Add File to Library" to add movies to iTunes library.
Step 3. On LIBRARY section of iTunes source list, click "Movies", and you could see the movie you added just now.
Step 4. Select iPod in DEVICS section of iTunes source list
Step 5. Drag the movie you want to transfer to iPod in library list and drop to iPod Movies. You will see the video in iPod Movies list and at the same time iTune will sync the newly added video to your iPod automatically.

I tried many such dvd converters, and I think this guide about
