Connection between diet soda and getting a stroke?

I am unable to locate anything definitive, but there appears to be some evidence that aspartame may increase the chance of stroke, particularly in people who may already have some indication of neural disease of one kind or another.

If you are concerned, it may be best to limit your consumption of this artificial sweetener. Read food labels to determine what you're eating and drinking; you may be inadvertently consuming more than you realize.

The health risk of aspartame remains a medical controversy .  So to answer your question it depends on who you ask .  I know my physician is not an aspartame fan and warns his patients of it's use including medications that contain aspartame .

I have a friend who's husband was hospitalized with seizures and stroke like symptoms . The physicians questioned him on his use of aspartame after they could find no reason for his illness .  His in take which was 4 cans of diet soda per day and daily use on his morning cereal and in 3 cups of coffee daily was called excessive use by them  . He has since stopped using aspartame all together and his health issues seem to be gone . Was his illness related to his aspartame use, it appears that it was .

The verdict on aspartame use still seems to be out with many physicians and others in the health care industry .  Most think more research is needed.

Who, by and large, drinks fizzy diet drinks?

I have to believe that the population consuming these products are at higher risk because of other factors besides aspartamine.
