Is there an easy default type of printer ink that any printer will use? I hate having to refill mine only to dig out what type of printer it is, the type of model its for and what printer ink is best for it - huge hassle.

I am afraid there is little possibility of that happening as every printer manufacturer has their own formula for inks. And to come up with  a universal printer ink, they would need to work with each other.
