I keep coming across references to Physicalist on this board - always in a negative way. Is physicalist a poster round these parts or a generic kind of insult? Maybe a term for a non-christian ...

Physicalist is still posting under that name.  If he posts under different names, I do not know that.  As Ol Yeddar has said, I too have had many civil conversations with Physicalist.  He and I do not share the same views, but he is always kind and well-mannered when speaking to me.  The other person you mentioned does post under quite a few alias monikers.  He/she does seem to have a one-track mind regarding all Atheists.  Just ignore all of the posters you find troublesome in any way and enjoy your stay with us.
