College topics for a persuasive essay?

Ten years ago, the "in" topic was on leftist beliefs, etc.  Now that leftist liberals have begun to show their nasty side (e.g. Occupiers) it would be appropriate to show that these people have gone much too far and they should have thought through what they were doing before they embarked on such a hairbrained course of acton.

Were I still in college (I graduated MBA from Columbia University in 1973) I would concentrate on the disturbing tendencies of today's leftist liberals and ways to talk them out of their planned vigilante violence.

Show the cyclic character of leftist activity, why former leftists become the greediest of despots, and why their children perpetuate the cycle because they view their parents as everything hateful.

You might start with the Beatniks of the late 1940's, how they came to their senses, and became truly ruthless investors.  Their children became Hippies in the 1960's, and became thoroughly disillusioned with leftist daydreaming and became Yuppies.  They begot Generation X (among the most violent people the planet has ever seen) and their children are considerably worse.

Document with plenty of case histories (there are at least 160 million to choose from) and show an alternative to such extremist living by being a normal, middle of the road conservative -- who will never become involved in extremist cults of any sort.
