Will cold hurt a piano ?

I inherited an upright piano and have left it in my unheated garage. Will it be ok for a month in wintery weather?Cry

Yes, it could hurt the piano.  Even when it's in your house you should have it against an inside wall if you live in a very cold climate. It will make the wood contract and if brought into a warm house it will expand and could crack the wood and it will also go out of tune.  If it's outside it will also absorb extra humidity....again bad for the piano.

Changes in temperature can warp wood ,because of the changes in moisture. It may not seem like much ,but even a few degrees can cause warping. If the wood warps it might not be able to stay in tune properly again.
