My friend still sleeps with his 7 and 10 yr. old ...

My friend still sleeps with his 7 and 10 yr. old daughters. He must lay down with them to get them to sleep and then they wake up throughout the night and if he is not in their bed they come to him. I have tried to discuss the topic with him and how he plans to stop it. He feels they need the securtiy since he and his wife are newly seperated (8 mos.) He believes this is totally acceptable and shows them he loves them. I think its his guilt over the seperation of the family that drives him to believe this and his judgement is clouded. How can this be "good" for the children?? At this age can't this cause severe emotional problems?... and the inappropriateness of sharing a bed with a grown man (father or not)!

Yes, I agree with you that this is inappropriate.  I would speak with him and tell him exactly what you've typed, that he should be there for his children, but sleeping in a bed with them in simply inappropriate.  They aren't babies anymore, and they need to start sleeping in their own rooms on their own.  Tell him that it will also cause dependence problems for the girls.

When life presents a challenge, take your shot.
