I think that an engine degreaser would be a good choice. Lye is rather harsh and could damage the container. Acid- NO. You could choose the labor intensive method by applying Dawn and Steel wool pads.

I just have to ask, why would you choose to drink percolated coffee when you can get a drip-o-lator from Target for under $10.00.
