I am currently on short term disability..... I was told they are taking taxes out so I am not sure if I need to claim this on my federal and state income taxes... could you please help me Young and disabled
Depending what state & does the money come from the state or fed gov
In ca. State disabity insurance is not taxed as income.Because you contribute every paycheck. No fed either
If is is short term it has to be a state disability
You have to disable 4 12 full months
If you need more info reply to be direct
I have never seen disability have taxes withheld. I am currently disabiled and my checks had with holdings taken out but not taxes. You should have received a tax statement from the disability company or your employer which you need to file your taxes. Contact one or the other to see where your W2 is.
I receive Social Security Disability each month and do not file taxes at the end of the year. If this disability is thru your employer, check out the stub to make sure taxes are being taken out. To be on the safe side and it's free...call a CPA.
