There should be levels on it, a low and high, and maybe something in the middle? Also, maybe you can take some water out of it so that there isn't as much water going out. Do you have the instructions?
Using your meter is the right way to do it remove distilled water and the level will drop . There are a couple of factors that do affect humidity levels. exposure to direct sunlight can lower humidity levels, air circulation , vents open windows etc.
The best way to lower the humidity in the humidor is to leave it open for a few hours. This will allow the humidity to drop. In order to better regulate the humidity in the future it is wise to use humidor solution one time, and then distilled water thereafter. Humidor solution will keep your humidor stable at around 70% relative humidity as it allows the water to be dispersed at that level. After using it once, then you can used it every 3 months or so thereafter (once every 3 months). Hope this helps!
