Not really. I'd consider books that friends suggest. And I choose according to niche.

Title, cover, first paragraph, and first page sequentially, if all 4 are appealing I go for it. Nothing else really registers for me.

No, I do not.  I read a book that attracts my attention.  So far I've picked all the right books to enjoy with the exception of one.  It was so bad I threw it away. 

Best sellers?  No.   If a subject intrigues me, I read up on it, reading different opinions in journals, and if several authors agree that this author is great, then I take a quick look into the book.  Sometimes I buy, but mostly I used the library.

I read a lot of classics and authors who have been around a long time, like James Paterson.  Many of the authors I read end up on the bestsellers list, but I have been reading them a long time, and them being on the bestsellers list is coincidental.
