Do you think the Roman Catholic Church can survive much longer?

I’m talking about the now worldwide expose of child abuse by priests and all the cover ups.
How can any sane adult let this institution have anything to do with their child?
Of course fear of “Hell” if they dont attend church may prevail !!

The Church will survive this. It has gone through worse scandals in the past. We have the promise of Christ that His Church will endure to the end of the age.

Dismissal is a popular demonstration of one's frustration or disgust , especially among adolescents. (E.g., consider the popular teen expression "Whatever!")

I'm not a Catholic, but it seems vastly unfair to me for one to dismiss a spiritual tradition (laden as it may be with eccentric dogmas, odd symbolisms and repetitious litanies) which has endured all that the world and Satan could throw at it for for the past 2,000 years.

The fact is, we Protestants are only 500 years old. If our "house" can survive (or overcome) scandal when WE are 2,000 years old, THEN perhaps it would be meaningful to consider your question.

Wow, pilgrimwb, I'm impressed by your comment!

Just let me add that Catholic bashing has become fashionable these days. The priest scandal is rightly to be condemned, but I warrant that the percentage of pedophiles in the clergy is not much different than in the population as a whole.

FBfan,  I agree with Lido.  There are pedophiles in other denominations also, not just the Catholic faith.  You just don't hear so much about them, because there aren't as many people in those different faiths as there are Catholics.  Sort of like the bigger the crowd, the louder the noise.

Yes, the Catholics will survive. They may need to allow the clergy to marry. Asking a male not to have sex and expect them to follow those rules is a hard act to follow. Sexuality is a normal human behavior and when surpressed you are going to have problems. However, the child abuse must be stopped and those priests who are abusing children must be held accountable. I believe the Catholic Church will eventually put a stop to this. The Protestants have their share of problems as well. Look at the TV evangelists. Most have gotten in trouble with women , greed, and the like. Sin, is a human condition . However, redemption is available for those who ask. Welcome to life. We all need to get back to the basics to refresh our souls. Maybe some day, our Priests will be allowed to marry. Things are changing.
