My Mazda Protege 5 has the "Check Engine" light on. I was told the code means that the gas cap may be faulty. I checked it and troed to turn it to seal it tighter, but it felt tight to me. Any advice?
Check Engine light means a lot of things. You need to have that checked by a mechanic. It may be nothing or it may be serious. Don't wait!
the cap may be tight, but it is not sealing or not venting properly. You probably need to buy a new cap. However, try this fix first. take the cap off. pry off the rubber seal and turn it over so the other side of the seal faces the fuel tank input. clean off any gunk or dirt and blow off both sides of the cap with compresed air if available while you have the seal off. replace the seal, put the cap back on and see if that helps. if not a new cap is in order.
