It would also depend on the specific locations of the stores, I would think.  I did belong to both for a while but I liked Sam's Club better over all.  BJ's has more name brand items, I believe they take coupons, and they have more normal size packages.  I thought their children's clothes were nicer as well, but I don't buy any children's clothes right now.  I felt Sam's Club had better deals on the things I would use from their store.  It would depend on what exact items you would want to buy.  Many times I can do better at other stores by watching sales and coupons.  But Sam's Club sure saves me a lot on over the counter drugs, and also basic needs such as underwear, socks, pajamas, etc.  Cat litter is much cheaper there, too, as are certain of their cheese packages.  Take an exploratory visit and check the prices on the types of things you would be likely to buy.
