How to Charge a Heat Pump Systems?

Heat pump systems for home use require routine service and maintenance, particularly for refrigerant. A heat pump system operates both cooling and heating by coursing refrigerant the condensing coil from the compressor, and into the evaporator coil as a liquid. Once the refrigerant reaches the evaporator coil, boiling off of the liquid causes cooling and the refrigerant repeats the cycle, returning as a gas to the compressor.heat pump systemheat pump system The cycle is reversed for heating a home, with the addition of a second stage strip when the "emergency heat" function is engaged. Charging the system is achievable by a home owner.

Details as follow:

1.Turn your heating/cooling system off at the thermostat.
2.Use the adjustable wrench to remove the valve caps from both refrigerant lines at the service valve. The valves are connected to the outside of the condenser unit, leading the refrigerant lines into the air handler.
3.Connect the low-pressure gauge to the service valve. The service valve is located on the large refrigerant line. The low-pressure gauge hose is located to the left of refrigerant manifold gauges.
4.Connect the small refrigerant line service valve to the high-pressure gauge hose. The high-pressure gauge hose is located on the right side of the refrigerant manifold. Connect a jug of refrigerant to the middle hose of the manifold.
5.Check the temperature of the air inside the residence. This measurement is called the ambient air temperature. Find the ambient air temperature on the pressure temperature chart, subtract 20 degrees Fahrenheit and locate the corresponding refrigerant pressure.heat pump system
6.Turn the thermostat to cool, and check the manifold gauges side pressure against the chart. If the measurement is within 4 psi (pounds per square inch) of the recommendation, added refrigerant is unneeded.
7.If the reading is more than 4 psi from recommended levels, turn the valve handle on the low side of the manifold, opening the system for charging. Keep the valve open for 1 minute, then close.
8.Wait 1 minute for equalization, then recheck the system pressure. Repeat the process until the pressure is within 4 psi of recommended levels. Once the system is properly pressurized, remove the manifold hoses and replace the service valve caps.

A heat pump doesn't use up the refrigerant, it has to be let out or it leaks out.

To charge the system and find the reason it needs charging you need a qualify ed service recondition with the proper tools, equipment and know how.

Charge a heat pump system is not so complicated as you indicated.

Ask the maintenace team for help will settle down so quickly.Good luck.
