My dentist says I have a cavity under the gum line. What is involved in filling this - what complications can I expect?

Thanks everybody for your answers. The gum was in my pocket and melted lol but yeah. The ice cubes worked but I had to freeze it. I couldn't find Goofoff at anywhere nearby which sucks because I actually do seem to get gum on myself quite a lot. Well again thanks and take care.
