Nothing good. At nbest it means the cat has an infection. You need to talk to the vet.

If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, then that makes me a burning truck filled with TNT hurtling through a rocket fuel depot.

You really should take the cat to the vet. But I understand that money is tight. My next idea is to talk to a pharmacist. There might be something over the counter. Just tell the pharmacist that your cat has worms. See if there is a simple solution.

Damn, I forgot about worms. Unfortunately it's been a while since I've been able to have a cat. Those worms can look a lot like maggots. Most pet stores carry basic worming medicines.

I might be mistaken, but maggots indicate a dead animal. Since the cat is alive I assumed it was worms.  Hopefully, you should be able to resolve this easily . good luck to you and your kitty.

wow dumb ass cats/dogs "DONT" get maggots!!!(not if they are alive anyway) worms will look a lot like maggots and the one that looks like that is called tape worms. tape worms r not the biggest deal as long as they are treated asap!! you can get the meds from just about any drug store or vet. but the cheapest i have found is petmeds, if you are to lazy to look for the number it is 1-800-petmeds. its even free so u dont have to pay for the call!! get the cat some help soon!!!!

What does it mean when a cat eats very little or not at all?

P.S. If it doesn't seem to be urinary related...when you are checking the body, and gums, also check the teeth...a bad or broken tooth, or any tooth infection, will also make them quit eating. (And sorry...that one sentence was supposed to say OPEN and draining)

How do you treat tufting on cats

If the cat has not been to the vet for a spell, get it checked. Then, get a grooming comb and go to work. If the cat acts like it is going to turn on you or climbs to the top of the chimney, just cut them out next time y'all are together on a friendly basis.

Why does my 10 year old cat stay in the litterbox ...

Yes, please get your cat to the vet for an exam. It could have constipation, or a possible urinary tract infection. Cats don't usually stay in litter boxes. They do their stuff and cover it and then get out. Good luck, and I hope your kitty gets better soon.
