Cats Living Together

My girlfriend just moved in with me. The thing is, we each have 1 cat ( they are both fixed - one is male, the other female). We introduced them to each other before she moved in, and they seemed to get along ok. When she first moved in, my cat stalked her cat incessantly. Then one day her cat had had enough and began chasing my cat (the male). The problem is this: now her cat (older) insists on chasing my cat. My cat hides under my bed to escape, and rarely comes out (He used to hide under the bed when he heard someone coming up the stairs, or when a stranger was visiting before she moved in). My cat, if cornered, will hiss and growl at her cat. We both agree that her cat isn't just playing and might hurt my cat if she had the opportunity. We keep them separated by closing them off in separate rooms some of the time. When left alone, the two cats keep to themselves (in separate rooms) until her cat gets the urge to hunt and chase my cat. We've all been living together for about 3 weeks now. Will the two cats ever coexist peacefully ? Is there anything we can do to help ?

Well you can buy a feliways diffuser, it has a artifical cat hormone which relaxes them and covers up their different scents.
Also rub a towel over one then rub it on the other one to transfer smells,vyou will get a lot of hissing and spitting but this is all about who is going to be boss. Once they have sorted out pecking order it will be fine.
It is normally the female who is boss. Don't seperate them it will take longer, there is nothing quite like seeing two kittys snuggled up.

Sometimes it can take months before cats learn to live together. Your best bet is to keep them separated for now and everyone once in a while let them out together as long as you are there to supervise. It might work out and it might not. Good luck!

Hi;

Keep doing what you have been doing and take it slow. The aggresive cat wants to be the alpha and the other wants to live in peace. In time they will both relieze the other is not a threat. They won't be best friends but can co-exist. Make sure they are seperate when you are both away.
