It always seemed un-natural to me that Catholic priests were forbidden to get married and have kids. I believe a priest should be someone that the community can look up to and admire. The fact that Priests are not allowed to get married makes their congregation unable to relate to them which makes people distant from their religion. It could reduce the rate of child molestation and other promiscuity as well. It would be interesting to see how it would effect the community. I am all for this experiment!

Duh-uh, yea-uh.  I want someone to show me where in the bible God says his priests have to be celibate.  Maybe so many priest wouldn't have to look to children to get sexual gratification.  Ya think maybe a wife would help?  God, this is so archane!  Catholic church...WAKE UP!

Of course the priests should be allowed to marry. However, I doubt if many would opt to do so. I have read statistics that priests are mainly homosexuals, pedophiles or individuals who have failed to form mature sexual and personal feelings for the opposite sex. Perhaps that is why the Pope will not allow equal opportunity for women to ascend to the priesthood and above. Of course the priests will continue to blame their decisions on the 2000 year old foundational text of the Catholics--the Bible--even though it is silent on the matter.

Extraordinarily claims require extraordinary evidence. The god hypothesis has failed for lack of evidence.. Public policy should be informed by science and pragmatism rather than theology and religious dogma.

Pedophiles shouldn't be allowed to marry.

Maybe if pedophile priests were married they would keep their hands off the altar boys and young parishioners. You can bet that the Catholic Church changed their policies to celibacy to assure that there were plenty of homosexuals and perverts in the College of Cardinals with their neat red dresses and colorful gay hats. They protected each other big time in the recent scandal. I can imagine the abuse these priestly predators inflicted on children during the Inquisition. Michelangelo let us know of the priestly perverts in secret message when he painted the nude Cherubs and men onto the Sistine Chapel. Priests have usually failed to form a proper feeling for the opposite sex. They like hanging with other men and boys.

Yes, I believe that Catholic priests should be allowed to marry

Yes, Catholic priests should marry BUT NOT as a means to avoid pedophilia, rape, and other "promiscuity." Pedophilia is a disease, rape has nothing to do with sex, and the other ills associated with priests have to do with themselves. Part of the reason for these scandals on the part of some priests is that the model of priesthood as we know it, attracts some men who have difficulty with relationships. Just as with some politicians, hunger for power replaces the self-sacrifice needed for a relationship.

I know many former, now very happily married, priests. I've been married to one for 32 years.
