Discuss MarryMe's answer to: Do the wands emit light as shown in harry potter while using spells?

I've never seen a wand at work (not a real one anyway, one that can create real magic).

There's no mention of this glow in the books. Actually in book 7 Ollivander says a good wizard can channel magic through any stick, so I'm guessing the movies added the light for dramatc effect only.
