the 1955 or 56 Plymonth had push bottons on the left side of the dashboard.I owned both but do not remember if only one or both had them. The minds fades a little after you get past 80 years old.

My father had a Mercury in the early '60's that had a "pushbutton transmission".  I believe that the buttons were on the left side of the steering column.

We had a 1959 Dodge that had pushbuttons that were to the left of the steering wheel.

Ford Edsel had pushbuttons in the center of the steering wheel hub, where the horn usually was at that time.  Packards had a chrome box mounted on the right side of the steering column with shift buttons, all Chrysler-built cars with Powerflite automatic transmissions had push buttons too, verly late fifties and early sixties,but they were on the dash.  Ramblers also had pushbutton shifting available about that time, I think that was on the dash also.
