How do door lock relays work with alarm systems

Pretty simple, a power signal sent to the relay will trip it passing current through the actuator forcing the locking mechanism to move through push/pull force.

In my experience of installing alarms, you typically tap into the factory relay if it already has power locks.  The factory relays are usually near the fuses.  If it has manual locks, you need to add the relay and actuator.
