Canceling a "Special Account"

How do I cancel a special account?  I try to cancel the account, and it gives me a phone number to call, saying that I have a special account.  So I call the number and it says I have to go online and cancel the account?

They tell me there is no support available to me without paying for it.  I dont think I should have to pay AOL to cancel the damn account.

Erica when I did that I got a message that said you cannot cancel a special account please call and gave an 800 # that basically told me to cancel it online as you said to.  So it's an endless circle.

Sorry, you have a special account type that cannot be changed online. Please call 1-800-827-6364.

This usually happens when you have one of the following account types: 

  • Prepaid account (1–12 months)
  • AOL DSL
  • AOL Cable
