If you know how to play you will know.If you're tonedeaf ask someone to assist you.Paul

First issue is Budget. The budget will dictate the type and main features: grand piano or regular, height, and ultimately brand

Then u should find the tone u like, i.e. German pianos (thicker\ vintage sound), Japanese (brighter, tight), English, etc.

I suggest u first define your budget, then go to a local store to hear the tones of the various pianos in your budget.

After that u may ask the professional tuning guy (The one that u will invite to tune your piece after it arrived to your place) to give advice on the final piano before u buy i( condition of strings, bridge, hammers, etc.)

The tuner guy's fee will be fraction of the shipping fee, so i think it worth it.

 good luck
