Think of your discs as hockey pucks. They have a kinda bark like skin or cover around them. After enough wear and tear the "bark" can begin to deteriorate. At some point the inside of the disc, kinda like a toothpasty substance begins to leak out and it pushes on nerves causing the pain. There are several different treatments for this. Make sure you are with a neurologist who specializes in disc disorders.
