Buddhists can eat poultry and fish.

The reason the dont eat beef, is that they believe the cows are holly

something to do with incarnation..

this is why you can see so many cows wondering around India's streets..

althaough in other countries like china, I think Buddhists are not vegeterian.

Some buddhists are vegetarians and some are not. It all comes down to personal choice and preference. It is impossible to obtain food that has not been produced at the expense of sentient beings. We can only be responsable for our actions and bring about a maximum of care for others.

This is a big debate. I suggest you search using Google for differing opinions to mine ;-)

"You are what you think. All that you are arises with your thoughts. With your thoughts you make the world. Speak or act with a pure mind and happinness will follow as the wheel that follows the ox which pulls the cart." The Buddha.

Have a fantastic day. Unless you have other plans.

The answer to this question varies depending on which type of Buddhist practice.  Many Buddhists do eat meat, and some only under certain circumstances (if served when they are a guest).  In fact,  it is my understanding that even the Dalai Lama eats meat on occassion.  Even those that eat meat must do so in a thoughtful way...I mean they must be thankful, and consider the sacrifice the other animal has made so they may eat.

In Tantric Buddhism, they learn to recite mantras, visualization and bardo delivery with all respect, before they eat the meat, the meat will be purify and spirits of the animals will be delievered to Heaven and remain the meat for human consume in order to obtain nutrition of human body.  We all know that even a glass of water has living organisms in it, millions of living organisms, bugs, insects, worms, caterpillar.. etc would be killed to obtain a intact vegetable for the vegetarian.

mahayana do not eat meat..

hinayana eat meat..
