I am not a Buddhist, so please take that into account when you read my answer.  I have known some Buddhists, and one of them even worked for my church (protestant, christian) once as director of my church's nursery school.  She told me some Buddhists do believe in God, because Buddhism does not teach atheism.  It just does not teach about God either.  It is basically "neutral" on God. Therefore most Buddhists do not pray, except for those who believe in God.  However, and this is of central importance, nearly all Buddhists "meditate" and meditation is not too different from prayer.  Buddhists think about their personal problems, maybe even about life after death, when they meditate.  But most Buddhists consider meditation a form of "talking to yourself".  They feel that they do not have to believe there is a "god" listening to their meditation for it to be effective.  Think of it as something like "positive thinking".  I have a christian friend who stands in front of the mirror and looks at himself each day after he wakes up in the morning  and recites  this chant:  "I am a hard working  person.  I will do good things today. I will not get tired as long  as I am doing something worthwhile.  I  will persevere.  I can  do it.  I have it in me  to be effective, deligent, enduring and strong.  Now, with God's help,  I go out and meet the day.  My guess is a Buddhist who does not believe in God  prays a prayer very similar to this, but simply leaves out the underlined part.  As I said, I am not a Buddhist, but I sincerely believe this is very much how they pray.  I hope you find this answer helpful.

Hi,

Buddism is a religion in that it is followed by millions but they might as well be praying to a statue, i beleive they do. There prayers are going no where. People can talk themselves into beleiving total nonsense. When the bogus beleif is passed down for generations the error grows and spreads on it's own. Can millions be wrong? Yes they can,  it happens several times. Buddisim and mosulisim to name just two examples.

God bless you and yours

All prayer is communication within consciousness. There is no external, objectified "God" to talk to. When the self connects to the divine Principle, Love, Mind, Spirit, the individual's nature transforms beyond the belief- dream that God is somewhere, out there, beyond His divine idea, man. Jesus knew his at-one-ment with his Father, Infinite Universal Creator. He had no allegiance to illusions, as do earth-bound mortals. Whatever or however Buddhists pray, believe, or whatever, if they discover themselves as the spiritual image and likeness of the One, they will achieve what the real purpose of religion is, the discovery of saving Truth.

My simple answer would be that Jesus prayed every day; so should we. He spent all night in prayer sometimes, and often rose while it was still dark in the mornings to pray.

Corporate vs intercessory prayer

Intercessory prayer is when a believer stands in the gap for others not for their-self. Intercession is praying with the real hope and real intent that God would step in and act for some specific need. It is trusting God to act, for another person. Intercessors pray for family members, work partners ...
