Brown Water?

For the last few days out tap water has been almost brown. What are the possible causes for that? Is it safe to drink?

It sounds like rusty pipes or a nasty case of water pollution. Report all unsanitary water problems to the water department in your area.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing well.

Sounds like iron oxide,(rust) in your water supply. ANY galvanized pipe in your system is suspect.  I would check the source of your water first and if I couldn't locate it there I would take a hard look at any galvanized pipes or fittings in  the system.  Do you flush, (not drain) your heater on a regular maintenance schedule? If not then you stand a pretty good chance of getting "brown water". I definitely would stick to bottled water for now until you have the chance to get this fixed! Hope this helps.Frown
