Bromeliad Care - Pink Quill (Tillandsia cyanea)

bromiliad plantnoneWhy did my Pink Quill (Tillandsia cyanea) "lose all of it's pink color"? The  fan-shaped head is now green instead of the brightest rose . This Bromeliad is growing in a piece of Lava in a small bowl.  I mist the plant and also wet lava once a week now. Originally I was told to keep water in the bowl all the time; which I now know is wrong, so it was too wet for sometime.  Lots of new green leaves are growing, but some of the older ones have black tips.  I have always used filtered water, but there is still some "white" on the rock and outer leaves.  What else can I do?
