How bleach effects metal

how does bleach effect metal?  we had to bleach some wood areas in our basement and some of the bleach sprayed also went on to some of the metal duct work - there is a salt-like matter covering the metal ducts now from the bleach.  Is this bad?  Will it ruin the metal?  Thanks for your help.
