It is the duty of any pet shop selling a bird to let that person know every thing about the bird, bad and good.

What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal." ~Albert Pine ...

It is so unnatural to market birds anywhere and against god and nature and that those who peddle them with one goal in mind, getting your money they feel they  have no responsibility to anything except getting money. Because of such unnatural confinment they do not even  know when birds are ill and if taken back they will throw in the back where it will die and replace it,not give you the money back. The laws are in the toilet you can if you are in NY take birds to City Birds 646 306 2862 dedicated people who will treat bird free of charge. Or search the net about this conditions birds do not take antibiotics well I beleive and most vets know nothing about birds but will advertise that they do, for money. Try the local office of the DEC AND FOR MISTAKES VETS MAKE ON ANIMALS THE LOCAL DIVISION OF PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT. who will send you a form and go question the vet but they are in bed with the bisiness. If you buy buy from a registered bird breeder and read my book A Collector Delight with years of knowledge on home treatment for dogs and cats by learning  YOURSELF you are saving SOMETIMES NOT ONLY YOUR MONEY but a animal life.

Psittacosis is caused by a bacteria that infects birds, who are members of the parrot family, pigeons, doves and poultry, including ducks and turkeys.  The symptoms in birds are depression, not eating, diarrhea, nasal discharge and difficulty breathing.  The bad thing about this disease is that birds can transmit the disease to humans.  The disease in humans begins with flu-like symptoms, but it can become quite severe, if it is not treated, and can lead to brain, heart and/or liver disease.  Therefore, I would say that you MUST warn bird purchasers about psittacosis, since the birds can give them the disease, and the disease can do the purchaser physical damage.
