The principles of the Hamas are stated in their Covenant or Charter, given in full below. Following are highlights.

"The Islamic Resistance Movement believes that the land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf consecrated for future Muslim generations until Judgement Day. It, or any part of it, should not be squandered: it, or any part of it, should not be given up. "

"There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors."

The charter is a rather classical Islamist document, applied to the local issues. It declares that Jihad (in the sense of armed battle) is the only solution. It cites the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a ludicrous anti-Semitic forgery.

The "Zionists" and the freemasons and others are blamed for what Hamas and radical Islamists see as the major calamities of the world, especially the French Revolution.

One of the most ominous aspects of the Charter however, is this Hadith:

After 100 days, the economic future of the nation--devastated by 30 years of moving all the wealth to less than 5% of the population through scams like "trickle down"--is still on the table, unresolved?  Failure!

The nation was mobilized BEFORE a possible flu epidemic crossed our border (instead of two days afterward, when people are dying and thousands of citizens are incarcerated at gunpoint in a stadium with no working toilets).  The nation has been mobilized very effectively, throughout all appropriate sectors, rather than putting relief supplies on trucks which will still be on trucks many years later.  However, the flu DID enter the U.S. through an airport anyway, with N.Y. school children.  Failure! 

And that’s hardly a beginning of the list of federal administrative failures, in a mere 100 days!   

Leave that kind of purposeful ignorance to others; they do it so well.  You're smarter than that.  I'll bet you're even smart enough to know that if you have to go there for an anti-government argument, it may be time to re-assess your position.

Oh, yeah?  How do you suppose that happened?

Britain took to the seas and conquered a good part of what we now call the "Third World," making it and its citizens theirs.  (Remember?  The sun never set on the British Empire.) 

I don't know what you envisioned, you guys who thought it would be cool to go along with Cheney to conquer Iraq, and then Iran and Syria and the rest of the countries on his PNAC schedule.  In the real world, though, England is exactly what empirical powers end up looking like.

Incidentally, when Britain got to Afghanistan, it was sort of the end of joy for the empire.  That's part of the reason for the adage, "Afghanistan is where great armies go to die."  

It seems we are about to find out whether our great army is an exception.  I wouldn't count on it.
