I’m exactly with you there.  The most horrible things that happen to kids are extremely unlikely—but the consequence is so unthinkable that you don’t take even the littlest probability.   

As to stocking food, water, etc., my attitude—and I am no way being condescending—is that it is relatively low cost and does no harm.  If it makes you feel safer, go for it.

The bind is that folks who distrust government don’t have an alternative.  Last week, I took the opportunity of stopping at Tea Party booths and displays to ask politely, “What exactly are you protesting?”  There were many signs—“don’t take my guns” and “Democrats kill babies”—but the person managing the table or booth always said, oh, those aren’t my signs; everybody put up their own.  All the speakers had, really, was vague distrust of government, supported when pressed by some random faults they found with government (like lack of accountability in TARP) that, without exception, referred to events during the previous administration.

Teabaggers who were not manning the booths were more willing to saying things like, “I don’t want to pay ANY taxes” or “I don’t want ANY government.”  I’m not totally a conformist, but I can’t see any future in that approach.  It sounds a lot like an evasion of responsibility:  “I can/will never do anything about anything because the necessary condition for me to do anything for the country, which is for government to disappear, just won’t happen.”  And we now have a clearer idea of how that works out.

Most of our lives, the libertarian dream of no government has been irrefutable, simply because we had never seen a nation without a government, so who knew how it would work?  Finally we have for reference a model nation without government—Somalia—and it turns out they are having a little problem with human nature.  Who knew?

The returns aren’t all in, but I’m betting that residents of Somalia have absolutely no program to keep safe from disease (which cannot be held off by a gun, and will without unified opposition jump right over the fences of the people who are being careful).  If this disease gets to Somalia, it will be a laboratory for a sickening experiment that will answer many questions about what government does for us in the area of health.

My dad used to say, democracy is a poor form of government, inefficient, a sorry mess.  But it’s incomparably better than any other.  I have to agree.  It ain’t perfect, it doesn’t do it all for us, but it’s a great partner in raising our kids safely and managing our lives.

Pandemics are not new.  Somalia will eventually have one, and it will be bad.  They are practically extinct, however, in nations with safe water and public health programs.  I wouldn’t worry about this particular disease behaving differently from other influenzas; we have heard that about previous strains of swine flu, chicken flu, and the like.  Yes, they are bad; no, they are not unique; and the preparations being made in the U.S. for the disease will confine it to small areas and countable, if sad, numbers of deaths.  If you want to worry about diseases that don’t follow the rules, look at AIDS, which was a truly new process and agent, at least in humans.  It is not, thankfully, transmitted in air or water, or whole populations would be dying.  The emerging unique group of maladies with no known method of containment or cure, and poorly understood transmission, is the spongiform infections.  A mutated influenza looks almost down-homey compared to those exotic diseases.

It’ll be okay, but anything you do to make yourself safer won’t hurt.  Good luck.

Is it so hard to stay on point? Is this the big event that has been promised by the loons on the net? Most likely not. Hopefully not, but the simple fact, and it is now a fact, is there are people dying of this new situation. 86 to be exact. No, it is nothing compared to what others are experiencing in the other parts of the world. However, it is the potential that concerns me. To call a little mutated influenza a "Down Homey" situation is bordering on the sublime if not "Down Home Denial". 

I am still trying to figure out how Tea Parties got into the conversation, but be it as it may that is NOT the point. I don't think there is a person talking about the Bilderberg possibility, or as I kind of digressed into talking of the current virus, that does not agree that government is necessary for the betterment of all. The debate is how much is functionally needed to maintain the agreed upon services that government should perform. Herein lays the problem as a slim majority want a more socialistic society, (which historically has never worked), or less government that is less intrusive, more cost effective, and keeps us safe. My god man, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the ineffectiveness and waste/corruption that lays within the system. You are right when you say it is not perfect, but More only makes it worse. It always has.

Let's ask a hypothetical. What if this thing is man made, and is part of a more nefarious plan? Is this possible. Lets say this thing does escalate to Pandemic proportions. What does that mean to us. How is the current administration going to use this crisis as Emanuel said, so as not to let it go to waste? Is this an opening for a further grasp of more power? MR, you can spout rhetoric all day long, but these guys are out for more than what would be normal circumstance. Look at what has been accomplished to date with this never ending arm. THEY want it all, or at least someone does. Open your eyes, think logically as to what is the balance, understand that Obama is just a man, and that in order to save our Democracy, controls need to be placed. That my friend is what a Democracy is all about. Balance, and the ability to control those who would like to not have that balance. Does that make sense? 

The tea party I attended was nothing like what you described. Some elements yes, but the theme was not No taxes, but reasonable taxes. Not no government, but reasonable government. Not No spending, but reasonable spending. Now that I look back and reflect, it was all about bringing on BALANCE.

Good for you.  Who are these people that don't think the best and brightest of the world should be helping to solve the difficult world problems that exist now, like global warming, racial and sexist discrimination...not to mention war and genocide.  Good for you.  These "conspiracy" theorists are those people living in the back woods or wherever, hiding from the world, and really believing they have all the answers to this troubled world.  One...do you bother to vote and campaign for the political party you back, or would you just rather complain.  Wake up and get involved!  Pick some problem you are passionate about and work on it...not on complaining about those that have made a name for themself in this world and would like to help unite it.  Grow up and stop spreading rumors and talking about things you don't know about.  Go OBAMA!  Work on those idealistic promises.  We the people overwhelmingly back you!

I just attended a function hosted by The Florida Security Council that featured Geert Wilder as their guest speaker. People we can talk about the Bilderbergs until the sun turns blue, but after he got through speaking there is NO question in my mind who the real enemy is, and where we all need to focus our attentions. Islam is the enemy. I am now firmly convinced that it is not a religion, but a very sick political machine that rivals all the sick machines that have been in our historical past. Dawg, you are a smart guy and you already know this. I thought I was a smart guy and knew this. I did, but I didn't.

We had blacks, jews, whites, rednecks, republicans, democrats, and Buddhists. One common goal. Save America from what is being perpetrated by this group. They are defeating us with our own SYSTEM. The politically correct will enable them to fulfill their mission. It is up to us to put an end to this situation. It is up to us to call our leaders out on the carpet anytime they give away one iota of a right to any of them. As Wilders said, and I agree with him, it is only 2% of the cult that are radical, but it is the 2% that convert, rule, and will destroy if we let them, our way of life. 

As a group they need to follow our laws, our way of life, our freedoms. NOT the other way around. I am now POLITICALLY INCORRECT and PROUD OF IT! It is OUR COUNTRY and WE ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE.

What is Obama doing about Pakistan. They are 60 miles from the nukes. These people will use them. We need a president that will say IT IS OUR COUNTRY AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANY MORE! To hell with impressing the world. I liked it better when we were AMERICA the strong. Being friends with Hamas, is like courting the devil. No it is worse. At least with the devil you know what you are dealing with.

But I'm pretty good at finding the stuff you don't see on the mainstream news...

I too am pretty worried about the radicals being so close to nukes... I don't know if Obama even cares, since he is a muslim and quite a few of them think that WW3 will bring their messiah back. 

If that's the case and Obama is in on it, we are already screwed since Obama has so many people fooled into thinking he is For America.

Don’t talk to Hamas

The western world seems to be eager to talk and to recognize Hamas. Of course they still say that they would only talk to Hamas movement if it changes its stance. Today looks like the genocidal jihadist terror group is but a step away from an invitation to the Oval Office. All this is happening without that Hamas has changed its behavior one iota.
Hamas is not ready to recognize Israel, they won’t stop the arms smuggling and they praisedisgusting acts of terrorism deliberately attacking and murdering children.Let’s see it as it is:Hamas is a terrorist organization.
So the question is why is the West so eager to recognize Hamas? Are they pursuing peace? I do not think so. The answer might be simple. They want to appease the Terrorists. The West doesn’t want to face the problem and are in the illusion that talking will change things. Everybody knows that if you provoke an Arab he might explode in your face. They are mistaken, sooner or later they will have to face the problem and the solution for Hamas will not be talks!
Hamas being a terrorist organization must be completely dismantled and destroyed. Hams must understand that , it is not worth doing what they do because punishment will come right away affecting them,their families,their pocket and their collectivity.
What is certain is that doing nothing and appeasing them instead has and will not work at all.

Dawg and the rest of the group. This is an email I sent my son this morning. The meeting that I went to last night gave me a new perspective on what is truly a problem. The bottom line we as Americans, left right, Republican Democrats, Christians Jews, Black White, need to unite as one. To stay on top of those rat bastards in Washington, our States, and at Home, to do what needs to be done to keep this thing at bay. No, to defeat it before it gets out of control. 

BUCK,             I had an opportunity last night to attend a most unique meeting. It was        held by a group called the Florida Security Council which is        Headquartered in Boca Raton. I will be honest with you I had no idea        what to expect when I walked through the door of the Renaissance Hotel,    which is one of the premier hotels in Boca Rotan.        The only reason I mention the name of the hotel is to impress upon you        the fact that this was not a meeting of “Tea Bagging Rednecks”. We had        Viet Nam war heroes, nationally syndicated radio hosts, a member of the        British House of Lords, and of course the guest speaker Geert Wilders.      Mr. Wilders is a member of the Holland House of Parli  ament and heads up      The Freedom Party. Mr. Wilder will most likely be the next Prime      Minister of Holland. He is on the Islamic hit list, and had    no less than 4 highly trained bodyguards at his side. The security was    impressive, and you will understand why after seeing the video. The Muslim fanatics    want him dead.             The meeting was held with the main focus of educating the participants      on the THREAT of Fundamental Radical Islam or, quite frankly the risk    they impose on the American way of life. How they are quickly taking    over Europe, and if current trends continue, they will control Europe within two decades. More importantly    how they are conquering the world without firing a shot. How they are using    our laws of freedom, free speech, and the current trend by our Politically      Correct Elite, to destroy and conquer within. They are achieving their        goal in Europe, and in the States as well. Right under     our noses. As Mr. Wilders stated, “They have the time, they have the will, and      they have our system of political correctness at their disposal. It is    their mission to destroy us from within. They are not a religion, but are no more    than are a sadistic ideological form of government that rivals the likes of    Hitler, Mussolini, and Stal  in. They want our lives, our children’s lives, and our country.    They will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.             Why do the Muslims want him assassinated? I am going to give you some      quick directions that leads you to an excerpt of his film “FITNA”. Once      you view this clip you will know the answer. One quick note that I had      no clue about. The radicals have formed a group called, “THE MUSLIMS OF      AMERICA”. What I am about to tell you is not some paranoid conspiracy      theory. What this group is doing is happening literally in our backyard. The      training facilities that this group has under its wing are in 21 locations        throughout the United States. We have three of these camps in Virginia.      THREE!!!! The locations are in Fairfax, Red House, and Meherrin. They    are in OUR OWN BACK YARDS. If you do not remember anything about this    email, remember the words, "Sharia Law". They are now the scariest two words    in my and your vocabulary.      The definition is in the video. Watch it and you will understand.             As I am sitting here writing this email, I am watching the debate over      how President Bush tortured these poor souls after they killed 3000      Americans. This assault on President20Bush is a travesty of the gravest      proportions. It is my opinion that this ploy by the Obama administration      is exactly that, a ploy. It has taken the eyes of the nation off of      their true agenda, and that is to pass all of the massive socialistic      programs that are before Congress as we speak. It is the classic use of      MISDIRECTION, and they are achieving the goal. We need to start getting      POLITICALLY INCORRECT and let our so called leaders in Washington know    that this is OUR COUNTRY, and WE ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT      ANYMORE! NOT ON OUR WATCH!!             Please do yourself, and your family a favor. Please take 8 minutes to    look at what is occurring in Europe as we speak, and also what is happening in    America.        You be the judge of what can happen here? Then we as Americans need to      make a choice. Keep our heads in20the sand, or start fighting back.
