It is very possible that your cat has a slight ear problem (i.e. infection, mites). Try looking in his ears and also smelling them. If you smell any odor or if there is a lot of black down inside take your cat to your veterinarian asap. Also, try to discourage the dog from licking them. Teach him to "leave it". Good Luck!
