ALL of the signers of the Declaration of Independence (with the exception of the Delegate from North Carolina) were nominal Christians.  The one exception, Mr. Hewes, was an atheist who firmly believed in slavery and was so stubborn about his barbarian practice that he refused to let America become independent without keeping his slaves.

One other plantation owner, John Hancock, freed his slaves instantly when the Declaration was signed -- and it was legal under US Law to free them.  British law forbade liberating slaves in that they might rise up against King George.

Democrats have always held black people as subhuman, and to be ruthlessly exploited.  That goes back to Hewes and his atheist degeneracy.
