in a way that it is hard to understand. There was
a communication problem between the two of you
(what she meant to say was not transfered in a way
that you'll understand what she wants).
2. "Yes" for your 2nd question (yes, you did the right thing).
she is not married to him and they are not committed,
that means that he is "free".
3. "Yes" for your 3rd question (yes it was fair).
Now some points that I want to add:
4. She is not worth to be your friend. You sure deserve
better friend than her.
5. You went much more than an extra mile to be
considerative and not to hurt her (and you were even
ready to even give up if she does not approve).
6. Hope that your new boyfriend will make you really
happy.
