I would recommend going with mutual funds, as there is the advantage of professional management and diversification.. Bonds pay at a fixed interest rate so you might not earn that much overall, and stocks would be a riskier option. 

For a retireme, I will recommend to go for mutual funds investment. There are many investment plans which provide you monthly income which is essential for a retired person. I personally have opted for Birla Sun Life mutual funds monthly income plan which gives an opportunity to grow money through fixed income investments and a limited exposure to the equity markets.
