Do you believe that there is no such thing as a completely selfless act?

Edit

One could argue that giving to charity is not entirely selfless because many people do it for the sake of a good internal feeling. Likewise, it's not entirely selfless to save your loved one's life because YOU want him/her to live.

Yes, I believe there HAS to be one or two somewhere out there, but they must be few and far between.  So few in fact, that I can only think of one....when Jesus Christ gave his life for all of our sins.  But, I'd like to think there are some out there besides that....it gives me a lot of hope for all of us.

People who donate organs, like a kidney or part of the liver do not get paid. They do it to save someone's life. Pretty selfless, I'd say.

A soldier who gets blown up trying to protect his fellow soldiers is being selfless.

In the Colorado shootings, a man took a bullet for his girlfriend. Pretty selfless IMO.

Selfless acts happen millions of times every day. Anything from holding a door for a senior citizen to returning a found wallet to it's rightful owner to helping a neighbor look for his dog to taking care of a sick relative. These things are done with no expectation of payment or benefit to themselves.

You should talk to your therapist about your cynicism.

I believe in selfless acts, certainly. Done a few myself. But they usually don't include charities, most of which are the LEAST selfless organizations imaginable. They involve people helping people one on one, saving and preserving lives.

If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, then that makes me a burning truck filled with TNT hurtling through a rocket fuel depot.
