Any time I apply nail polish to finger nails ...

Any time I apply nail polish to finger nails within about two or three days it starts chipping and peeling and looks terrible. How can I make the polish last longer?

You have not said anything about your profession or your hobbies.

 

Apply an initial coat of flat polyurethane. Smooth with 0000 steel wool, dust, and apply your polish.

 

Better yet, wait for the advice of a manicurist.

Lol Jay... the only thing that will make it last is a good top coat.  Apply daily.

One day I said, 'I will go out & look for my enemies' and on that day I found no friends. The next day I said, 'I will go out & look for my friends' & on that day I found no enemies. ~YeddaHeads~

this use to happen to me too, but now that im using o.p.i. it never happens and it last for even up to a month.

OPI is good but I've never had any polish last a month!  But I also do a lot with my hands...

One day I said, 'I will go out & look for my enemies' and on that day I found no friends. The next day I said, 'I will go out & look for my friends' & on that day I found no enemies. ~YeddaHeads~

Stop buying the cheap kind. The more expensive last longer. Also finish off with a clear coat.

Be sure to use a base coat and a top coat. Also, the cheaper nail polishes don't last as long as the more expensive ones.

DO NOT use steel wool on your nails.  If you'd not use it on your skin, don't use it on your nails.  You dont want to damage your nails.  

Good nail polish (OPI is great) is a must.  I work as a photographer and a lot of my work involves a computer.  Even using OPI, I get about a week before the tips start to show wear.   Add a new layer of color weekly, along with a clear top coat to protect.

Make sure you wipe the oil from your fingers first. For me, the best healthy and long lasting nail polish is Deep Cover System. The colors are beautiful and the polish stays on for a long time.
