BAE Systems PLC (BAESY) might need to warn its U.S. workforce before the Nov. 6 presidential elections that congressional budget cuts could force about 4,000 layoffs, chief executive Linda Hudson told Reuters in an interview published Tuesday.
Ms. Hudson said uncertainty around about $500 billion in extra budget cuts set for January is causing problems for weapons makers, threatening jobs and slowing acquisitions.
"If everything is cut across the board, we may end up having to send notices to all of our employees that work on government contracts because we can't pinpoint a location that would be affected, or a program that would be affected," Ms. Hudson told Reuters.
She also said that substantial cuts could force consolidation "at all levels."
