Babys and there temp

my babys temp jumps from 101.4 and goes down gradually till its back at 99.2. now i have heard that babys are still trying to figure out there bodys hes only 2 months. we have been to the er twice for this and every time he was normal by the time we get there. is it true about there bodys adjusting? and if no why does his temp keep rising so high then go back down the way it does?

First of all does he have any other symptoms? Runny nose, cough, diarehha, etc. It may just be that he has a cold coming on and his body is fighting it off. Which way are you taking his temperature? Rectal, arm or ear? This makes a lot of difference in the actual temperature of his body. I you have a rectal Thermometer take it that way. I know it seems gross but it is the best way to get and actual temp. Have you also tried alternating baby tylenol with baby motrin. You can give tylenol and motrin every 4 hours alternating each to keep down the fever, but I would not give it unless his temperature is above 101 so his body has a chance to fight it off himself. Also try giving cool baths and cool washcloths on his head that might help.

It is normal for the baby's temp to go up and down.. as long as he is not showing symptoms of illness and is nursing or bottle feeding normally there is no need for concern.. babies can handle high temps better than adults.. keep an eye on the baby and check his temp every hour or so.. rectal is the way to go to get a more accurate reading.. if you take his temp and getting the same up and down readings it is ok.. the baby is fine and the body is adjusting to the temp around him..

If there is a will.. there is a way

I have never heard about a baby's temperature spiking like that unless something is wrong. A fever is, of course, the body's way of fighting an infection. But to spike so quickly and suddenly is odd. It would be my advice to take your baby to the dr and explain the situation, even if there is no fever at the time of your visit. There could be a serious problem that needs immediate attention. In the meantime, give tepid baths in order to make him comfortable. Good luck!
