Ava was Scotch Irish on her Father's side and English on her Mother's side.  Any story that she had Native American or African American in her genealogy is false and probably started due to her olive skin and dark hair (although she had light eye color-green-and was naturally auburn).  She was often cast in parts that were of different ethnicity (Spanish in The Barefoot Contessa, Half-Indian in Bhowani Junction, and Half-Black in Show Boat) but her heritage is very Anglo-Saxon.  For more information about Ava Gardner, please visit www.avagardner.org.
